Passing Exam 70-181: TS: Windows Embedded Compact 7 is required in order to earn the Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (MCTS): Windows Embedded Compact 7 certification. The 70-181 exam is designed for industry professionals who have experience in the development of embedded devices through the use of Windows Embedded Compact 7. Microsoft recommends that candidates have at least one year of work experience in the use of Windows Embedded CE and at least six months of work experience in the use of Windows Embedded Compact 7 before attempting the 70-181 exam.
Twenty-one percent of the 70-181 exam will test a candidate’s knowledge of the design and configuration of Operating Systems. During this section of the test, candidates will be required to prove their ability to add functionality to the catalog, select catalog items for an operating system image, and manage catalog item dependencies. Additionally, candidates will be required to show that they can integrate third-party binary applications and prepare the platform for application development. Other sections of the 70-181 exam will require exam participants to prove their ability to customize Board Support Packages (BSPs) and drivers, build images, boot and debug images, and profile performance. Concepts that candidates should understand include the OEM Adaptation Layer, the Kernel Independent Transport Layer, bootloader, and the Windows CE Test Kit.
